New Home
I co-produced and co-facilitated this creative collaboration between Seven Stories National Centre for Children’s Books, Newcastle University and West End Refugee Service, to create a children’s book written and illustrated by refugees and asylum seekers.
This project began with a question, how do we tell refugee stories to children? Working with my collaborators Helen King and Lauren Vevers, we led a series of workshops in which sanctuary seekers explored creative writing and illustration inspired by their experiences to create stories for children. This culminated in the creation of New Home, which told the story of two sibling’s journey to the UK and their experience on arrival.
You can read a digitised version of New Home below.
We held a celebration evening with music and readings which was extremely popular with the community.
